How to get your notebook computer ready:

1. zMail

Set up zMail by going to http://www.zmail.unsw.edu.au/getpass
Involves setting up a Microsoft Live account.
More help here:

2. zPass and reset UniPass

Go to the link below and follow the instructions to set up your identity security.
http://www.idm.unsw.edu.au

3. UniWide

Set up laptop to access to UNSW UniWide wireless network by following instructions at:

http://www.it.unsw.edu.au/services/uniwide/index.html

Different operating systems have different instructions. You will need to be at the UNSW to actually enter the username and password, but the rest can be set up beforehand.

4. zMail POP Access

Set up zMail to be checked from a normal email client rather than having to log in to the website.

The following info is needed to set up the email client.

Username:  z*******@zmail.unsw.edu.au  (The asterixes represent your student number)

Servers:

Incoming (POP3):    outlook.com
Outgoing (SMTP):     pod51000.outlook.com

Tick Clear text authentication if option present.
Tick SSL if option present
Tick: Outgoing mail server requires authentication

Advanced Tab:

Outgoing (SMTP) Port: 587
Incoming (POP3) Port: 995
Both need to be secure connection (SSL) if option present

Good idea to leave messages on server for backup, but set it to keep on server for only a few days so server does not get clogged up.

5. WebCT - VISTA eLearning

Set the following URL into your Favourites/Bookmarks:

https://vista.elearning.unsw.edu.au/

To log in, click on:  UNSW Online Courses

Entering your student number (with the z in front) and using your UniPass should allow access.
